German Romantic Road

Day 1 ORIGIN – FRANKFURT – ROTHENBURG OB DER TAUBER 

Upon your arrival to Frankfurt, your assistant will meet your group and help guide you to your hotel in Rothenburg ob der Tauber. The remainder of the day will be at your leisure to relax and explore Rothenburg on your own.

Day 2 ROTHENBURG OB DER TAUBER 

After breakfast you will enjoy a half day tour of Rothenburg which includes the most interesting sites of this medieval town with its narrow streets and beautiful facades of houses and buildings with overhanging balconies. Rothenburg ob der Tauber has been preserved and protected since the Middle Ages. The town, completely enclosed by massive fortification walls, remains as it was since medieval times. Walking through the historic center you will see over 40 town gates and defense towers, old Town Hall and next to it the farmers’ market, where you can shop the local specialties. The afternoon and evening will be free for your leisure.

Day 3 ROTHENBURG OB DER TAUBER – MUNICH 

After the breakfast you will depart from Rothenburg to Munich. The afternoon and evening will be free for your leisure to relax and discover Munich. Optional activities: Enjoy your evening at Hofbräuhaus, in the oldest and best-known brewery in Munich, founded in 1589. The interior retains the original decoration of the old time. You can taste the delicious traditional dishes with a glass of beer brewed in house as you listen to the sounds of a typical German band. This is a unique opportunity to experience the atmosphere of Oktoberfest (Oktoberfest) out of season.

Day 4 MUNICH 

The highlight of this day will be a half day tour of Munich. You will enjoy the capital of Bavaria, which according to legend, was founded by Benedictine monks in the ninth century. This day it has become an important center of science and technology, fashion, arts and university life. Each year it becomes a meeting point for lovers of beer, celebrating the greatest beer festival in the world: Oktoberfest. During your sightseeing tour you will admire the Marienplatz square with the column of the Virgin Mary and the architecture of the Old and New Town Hall with its horologe, as well as the Church of Our Lady (Frauenkirche). The afternoon will be free for you leisure, you can make shopping in the central market Viktualien Markt and the lively streets Maximilianstrasse or Ludwigstrasse in the historical center. Or you can visit the baroque Nymphenburg Palace and its beautiful gardens, situated on the west part of Munich, which was the main summer residence of the rulers of Bavaria. Optional Activities: Join us in the tour to Dachau, which was the first concentration camp in Germany, opened in 1933 initially for political prisoners, but later also used for deported Jews, homosexuals and priests. The Dachau concentration camp, whose design was the work of Theodor Eicke, served as a model for the construction of the other concentrations camps in Europe. On your tour we guide you around the cells, barracks and gas chamber and explain you the details of the life in the camp during the war until the liberation by US- forces in 1945.

Day 5 MUNICH – GARMISCH-PARTENKIRCHEN – FUSSEN

After the breakfast you will depart from Munich to Garmisch-Partenkirchen in the Bavarian Alps region. This small town became one of the venues for the Olympic Games in 1936 and today is still considered an outstanding capital of winter sports. On the Marienplatz square you will admire the beauty of the baroque Neue Kirche church or Alte Kirche gothic church, located nearby. Your afternoon will be at your leisure to relax and explore the typical architecture of southern Bavaria, before you continue to Füssen. Optional activities: according to weather conditions, you can join us in our tour to the highest mountain of Germany – Zugspitze (2962 meters). You will enjoy the wonderful views of alpine landscapes and taste the local sausage with beer. You will return by the cable car to Lake Eibsee.

Day 6 FUSSEN – NEUSCHWANSTEIN – LINDERHOF – FUSSEN

After the breakfast you will depart from  Füssen to discover the famous Neuschwanstein and Linderhof castles, built for the King Ludwig II of Bavaria in the XIX century. You will admire the interiors of the majestic Neuschwanstein in the New Gothic style as well of the Linderhof castle, whose architects were inspired by French constructions of the time of Louis XIV, which was a personal idol of Ludwig II of Bavaria. After the tour you will continue to Füssen, where you will overnight at a hotel. The evening will be completely free for you leisure. Optional activities: Guided tour to Wies, which is the famous sanctuary and one of the most significant, works of the Bavarian Baroque and as well the Ettal Basilica, the main church of the Benedictine monastery of Ettal and its famous brand of liquor.

Day 7 FUSSEN – MEERSBURG

After the breakfast you will depart to discover Meersburg and its sites of interest. You will pass Alps Mountains, where you can admire the beauties of the landscapes. After the arrival you will join the sightseeing tour where you can enjoy the natural beauty of the island of Mainau situated on the Lake Bodensee. Mainau Island is a real paradise of flowers and exotic plants that attracts millions of tourists each year. In this island botanical garden you will see many plants from all over the world, such as palms, roses , orchids, orange and lemon trees, with birds of Australia and Brazil. The evening will be completely free for you leisure. You will overnight in Meersburg. Optional activities: you can join us during the boat trip on the lake Bodensee with the historic ship “Ladine “.

Day 8 MEERSBURG – TRIBERG – HEIDELBERG

After the breakfast you will depart to Heidelberg and during your journey you will stop to discover the beauty of the Triberg city, situated in the heart of the Black Forest, which has become famous for the manufacture of cuckoo clocks. You will have free time to stroll and shop in the center of Triberg, before to continue to Heidelberg. You will overnight in Heidelberg.

Day 9 HEIDELBERG – BERNKASTEL-KUES – HEIDELBERG

The highlight of this day will be a half day tour of Heidelberg. You will enjoy the historic center of this important University City as well as the Heidelberg Castle an important landmark of the town. After your city tour you will depart to Bernkastel- Kuses, famous for its extraordinary constructions and Wine Festival, which annually attracts many visitors from all over the world. You will have free time to explore the city before to continue to the local traditional winery, where you will taste the local wine. In the evening you will return to Heidelberg.

Day 10 HEIDELBERG – BINDEN – BOPPARD – FRANKFURT – ORIGIN

After the breakfast you will depart from Heidelberg to Frankfurt airport. During you journey you will stop in Binden, the city of the mystique and religious Hildegard von Bingen. Your tour will continue by the boat to Boppard enjoying the beautiful views formed by hills, fields and vineyards, numerous ruins of castles and towns, passing through regions that have always attracted the German writers and poets, the regions of Lorelei and Nibelungs. Finally, you will continue to the Frankfurt airport. End of our services.
